Animated Kaleidoscope

This is just a fun project we did in class this week.  We created a living digital kaleidoscope that changes as you save changes to your source document.  The animation part is a bit tricky because the kaleidoscope uses smart objects and when you change a smart object it changes every copy of it as well.  This was just by using a slightly more laborious process of saving each change to the kaleidoscope as a jpg and then opening all of your jpg files into a new document.  From there it is just a simple matter of creating a frame animation, which we've done before.

Happy Halloween

Just having a little fun demonstrating Text and "Fx" you can put with it.  Then using another image to create a clipping mask.  I used a brush that was modeled after clouds and a circular gradient tool that I later took a bite out of with a circular brush colored the same way the sky is colored.  That way it looks like a crescent moon.  Adding the witch and her shadow with Hagrid on his bike completed the image.

Adobe Tutorials

Here is the link to Adobe's excellent tutorials.  Don't forget that some of what they do in their tutorials apply to their Creative Cloud application, which might be a little different than our version.

Just some playing around using a photo of my guitar, some smoke brushes and music symbols with clipping masks.

Optical_Emily

Is this a profile or face on photo?  The answer is yes.  Our own very beautiful senior, Emily, agreed to help me create this image using two of her.  One profile and one face on.  I watched Marty at Blue lightning TV to create this fun optical illusion.

Sketchup Materials Window

Fractal Plugin

I created the image below using a plugin from Fractalius.  The original image is above.  I used a layer mask to remove the effect from Jennifer's face and neck. This is a really nice plugin, but unfortunately, it is only available for a PC.

Eclipse Standard and Animated

Mallory shared a video from Blue Lightning TV with me that showed you how to create an eclipse in Photoshop.  This is the result of my first try.  Not too shabby.  I decided to animate it a bit and produced the following result:

In order to create the rotation motion, I had to first convert the flair layer into a smart object.  This will give you the option to transform the layer on the timeline animation.  The rotation wasn't perfect, but not too bad overall.
